As you will find at the American Bamboo Society, there are dozens of species of bamboo. Each with a different “look”: short, tall, giant, “plain” green, gold, striped, black, straight, curved and wavy.  When given the respect and attention it is due, bamboo can be a beautiful addition to a landscape as well as incredibly useful in a variety of applications.

In the larger landscape, bamboo makes a wonderful screening plant.  Deer don’t bother with bamboo, so there are no worries with putting at the edges of property or near the woods. And best of all, the shoots are edible and quite tasty.

I will be posting  links as I gather and sort them. And feel free to offer any you have found useful.

Next spring I will attempt  to get some pictures of the process of gathering and processing bamboo shoots for eating.
