If you attach different states to the concept of time (think of the varying states of water depending on energy input: solid/ liquid/vapor) Petr Hořava, a physicist at the University of California, Berkeley figures you can clean up some of the messy, intractable problems physics has been having since Einstein decided to marry space and time together.
